As I sit in this adorable coffee shop in Lexington, KY, avoiding all the things I really need to do and the rain (oh the rain!), I thought I would finally give everyone a life update. It’s been awhile and I’m actually quite sad because blogging has been the one thing I really do 100% for enjoyment. Well let’s see… I graduated! WHOOP! Finally I may actually be considered an adult (though I don’t feel like one and am not sure when I will, thoughts?) I have moved back to Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati and am so happy to be back in my hometown once again. Unfortunately, I was not accepted into Medical School this cycle and while this has immensely disappointed me, I am not discouraged! I am currently volunteering in the hospital and have applied for research positions! If anyone is out there who has been in the situation I would love to hear your experience! I have come to find out that taking a gap year is far from unusual and is actually more common then getting in the first round! I am definitely going to blog about my journey to give encouragement to those who may be in my position or who are in the process of applying to med-school now!
Now for some fun. I went to Hilton Head Island for the FIRST time. For all you east coasters I know this is a SHOCK, everyone seems to go there, right? At least everyone in my area does. Anyway I loved it and it was such a beautiful vacation spot. I know we are going there next year and I would love some suggestions for restaurants etc. from you lovely people! Here are some photos of our day trip to Savannah:
Shirt / J. Crew (similar)
Necklace / Charming Charlie (similar)
Skirt / Versona (Similar and shorts)
Hat / Amazon
Sandals / Michael Kors
Nordstrom has some awesome sale pieces right now that will fit in for a style-perfect spring wardrobe. I have gathered my favorite items (that have made it onto my wishlist!) to share here but I encourage you all to check it out for yourself!
White Button Front Skirt
Button Front skirts are so trendy right now (loving the 90’s throwback!) and this white version is different and perfect for spring!
I was drawn to this skirt because it reminded me of something J. Crew would carry, but after I clicked on it I discovered it’s uniqueness! The sides of the skirt cut up a little giving this skirt a more edgy feel!
Mock Neck Dress
I have a few mock neck dresses but they are definitely more appropriate for winter. The fun pattern and airy fabric of this dress make it more suitable for spring!
Chambray Shirt Dress
I have been searching for a good denim dress for the spring and this one caught my eye! I love the high/low feature and how well it pairs with white sneaks!
Lace Up Espadrille
This shoe combines the casual style of espadrilles and the trendy aspect of lace-ups. I think the mixture is absolutely a shoe-win!
Lucky Brand Sling Back
These were just too pretty not to include! Open toe booties are the perfect transition shoe for spring!
I am seeing utility style jackets and vests up and down the blogosphere! I like the details on this one, especially the cinched waist!
I have been living in my tiny excuse for a room for almost two years now. Can you even believe that I don’t want to pull my hair out or punch my fist through the wall? Maybe it’s from my cramped memories of the dorm and sorority house that I feel that the joy I find in solace of my own room outweighs the crackerbox claustrophobia. Or maybe its because I have found and utilized the best space saving strategies ever! Seriously I think Pinterest is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to the Internet. I found much of my inspiration there and just modified it to fit my style!
So the white jewelry dish is actually two glass dishes from Goodwill that I spray painted white. The middle is just a glass candle stick, also from Goodwill. I love putting my every day jewelry right where I can grab it! The mason jar I painted with regular acrylic paint and then used sand paper to scuff it up and give it a rustic feel. It holds little paper clips for my photo from pictured below.
The picture frame is not necessarily a space saver but I do like displaying my favorite moments and it’s a lot smaller than a bunch of picture frames. I spray painted an old frame white and then strung some twine with a staple gun. Easy enough? The awesome intagram prints are from Foxprint. They are 25 cents a piece and ship right to your door!
This is one of my favorite parts of my room. I love that all my hair, skin and other daily products are still easily accessible but are neatly suspended over my dresser, leaving it clutter free! This nifty contraption is actually a spice rack from Ikea and cost me only $3.99!
I am obsessed with the Dollar Tree. Literally OBSESSED. Ask my friends. They’ll tell you. So when I came across these adorable apothecary jars I just had to have them. I painted the top of them with acrylic paint, scuffed them up a bit, mod-podged them and viola! You would be surprised by what you can find at the dollar store.
Another fav of mine. This rack is mounted on the inside side of my closet door. I just open it up and all of my statement necklaces (and a couple of my favorite purses) are right there! Its getting pretty full now so I think I might have to pick up a second one! I found this also at Ikea meant for something in the kitchen. Obviously I had a better idea. (s hooks found here)
Anybody have space saving tips? I would love to here them! xoxo
With March around the corner and spring weather making an appearance, all I can think about is the beach! Luckily for me I will be there in 3 short weeks! While I might be ready for fun in the sun, my wardrobe certainly is not. So I have compiled my favorite spring-break must-haves!
Obviously I love the palm print and am so excited it is sticking around for another year! This time I am definitely getting in on the trend!

Is anyone else going on spring break this year? What are your beach must haves?
SO EXCITED to be collaborating with eShakti this week. eShakti is this unique little online shop that specializes in customization. They have stylish and trendy clothes that can be tailored exactly to your measurements! Perfect for women like me that might not fit perfectly into standard sizes. Customization further includes sleeve length, neck line, hem length and more. You can make all their apparel fit your style and flatter what suits you best! Seriously, I’m obsessed. Why can’t more stores be like this?
So let’s talk about this amazing dress. Kelly green plaid caught my eye as soon as I saw it and I just had to have it! I know plaid is normally an autumn/winter kind of thing but this bright green transcends right into spring! Plus it has pockets! I am a total sucker for pockets! I just can’t wait to rock it at the horse race track! I lengthened the sleeve so it would be more comfortable for cool spring weather and chose to have the hem hit right above my knee. I felt that this dress gave off a retro vibe, almost like something I would find on Modcloth, so I paired the dress with suede shoes, cat eye sunglasses ($10 steal from TJ Maxx!) and a bold red lip.
I love that for a shop that customizes (at no extra cost!) the clothes are so affordable! Most are under $100! I lined out some of my current favorites that are definitely on my wishlist and surely will be on yours too! Use code : citybelles for an extra 10% off your order (which can be included with any other discount codes!)
Orange Ruffle Hem Top // $64.95
Chambray Off the Shoulder Top // $39.95
Windowpane Dress // $94.95
Red Midi Skirt // $79.95
** I was given this dress in exchange for my personal product review. I assert all opinions and thoughts are my own.
Quick, little, baby post about my new favorite beauty brand that I’m sure many of you have at least heard of–LUSH. I actually have just recently been exposed to the wonderment that is LUSH and I have to say, I am thoroughly enamored. With Valentine’s Day coming up I thought whether you are spending it with a significant other, with some of your best gals (Galentine’s day for the win), or maybe alone with your cat, it’s the perfect season to treat yo self (I may be a Parks and Rec addict) and have spa day at home!
- Dreamwash– This sounds like a necessity if you want to relax and revitalize. It has the soothing ingredients of aloe vera and lavender. Plus it’s called a shower smoothie. How delicious does that sound?
- Ocean Salt Scrub– I am IN LOVE with this product. I received a sample last time I went to the store and I am definitely going to purchase it when I run out. I have dry, rough skin and this transforms it into silky smooth. I have never felt so clean and fresh then after using this product.
- Brazened Honey Face Mask– What would a spa day be without a face mask? I have blotchy, red skin and this mask boasts that it brings balance and brightness back to the face. And then with ingredients like honey and almonds, it sounds too yummy not to try.
- Sakura Bath Bomb– This is what LUSH is known for! Colorful, fun, and oh-so-luxorious scented bath bomb. This particular beauty is inspired by springtime and elegance, the perfect combination for beauty-filled Valentine’s Day.
- The Kiss Lip Scrub– Can’t forget the most important thing to revitalize–the lips! The Kiss is a limited edition Valentine’s Day lip scrub, so just in time to make you lips as kissable as ever!

*The above are my own views and opinions. I am not associated with LUSH brand.
I stumbled into blogging because I loved fashion and wanted an outlet to share my personal style. I never knew it would take me on such a whirlwind journey and I am continuing to learn something new everyday. When it came time to think of a name for my blog I debated for a long time (if long is for like an hour). Regardless, the name did not come to me instantly. I wanted something that would capture what made me so unique.
When I reflected on what this might be, I thought about everything that inspired my style. I grew up 7 minutes from the downtown of a big city with a growing young, urban community. As a result trendy, edgy and hip were the definitions of style as I became a young adult. Crop tops, high waisted jeans and combat boots were therefore my uniform as I entered the new southern, traditional world of the University of Kentucky. Preppy was not in my vocabulary.
I was in for a rude awakening when I was suddenly thrust into the realm of sorority life. Not to say personal style was not celebrated or accepted in my sorority but there were certain things that were more popular than others. I am not immune to social pressure, and I mean who is? So when cute monogrammed raincoats and Lilly Pulitzer patterned dresses started popping up everywhere I looked, I couldn’t help but be enamored.
But I couldn’t completely let go of my trendy, urban side and so I ended up with a blend of city and southern style. Consequently, when it came to naming my blog that’s the conclusion I came to. I am a fusion of metropolitan and classical, trendy and timeless, a true city walker and a southern belle. City-belle. See? Sometimes I can just be tooooo clever. 🙂
On another note, how’s everyone enjoying the cold weather? I had fun bundling up!
