Life Update

As I sit in this adorable coffee shop in Lexington, KY, avoiding all the things I really need to do and the rain (oh the rain!), I thought I would finally give everyone a life update. It’s been awhile and I’m actually quite sad because blogging has been the one thing I really do 100% for enjoyment. Well let’s see… I graduated! WHOOP! Finally I may actually be considered an adult (though I don’t feel like one and am not sure when I will, thoughts?) I have moved back to Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati and am so happy to be back in my hometown once again. Unfortunately, I was not accepted into Medical School this cycle and while this has immensely disappointed me, I am not discouraged! I am currently volunteering in the hospital and have applied for research positions! If anyone is out there who has been in the situation I would love to hear your experience! I have come to find out that taking a gap year is far from unusual and is actually more common then getting in the first round! I am definitely going to blog about my journey to give encouragement to those who may be in my position or who are in the process of applying to med-school now!

Now for some fun. I went to Hilton Head Island for the FIRST time. For all you east coasters I know this is a SHOCK, everyone seems to go there, right? At least everyone in my area does. Anyway I loved it and it was such a beautiful vacation spot. I know we are going there next year and I would love some suggestions for restaurants etc. from you lovely people! Here are some photos of our day trip to Savannah:

The Perfect Holiday Dress

This may be my new favorite dress! (Can you believe its only $10?!?) All the detailing like the lace overlay and fit-n-flare skirt make it not only flattering and eye-catching, but exceptionally unique! I always like discovering pieces that are different from what I can find on the mall racks. I paired the dress with some sleek black tights and these fabulous booties from Old Navy. The dress has enough going on that the rest of the outfit could be simple and streamlined. The leopard fold over clutch gave enough pop to complete the outfit. Now I just need a party!

All of these pictures were taken at Over the Rhine in Cincinnati. The area is full of unique restaurants and shops and is definitely the up and coming spot in the city. I’m planning a post with my favorite must-sees in OTR and can’t wait to share it on the blog!

Swing Dress + Cape

This weekend I ventured out with a best friend to take advantage of the mild weather and snap some photos for the blog (and her up and coming writer website!) I was so excited to (finally) sport by camel cape! The poncho/cape trend is super hot right now and I could jump on board without breaking the bank with this one. I bought the cape and swing dress from Shein.com. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the items for the price (both are $15). I know many bloggers have raved about this site and I happy to join them! The swing dress is a rich, pretty red that is perfect for the holiday season! My only complaint is that it is a little short but I think with black tights it would be perfect! The cape is amazingly warm. I actually wore it out at night to go ice skating and I was completely comfortable.

Gift Guide: For 21 and Over

Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 5.13.54 PM

Tomorrow it is one month until Christmas! Crazy how this fall has flown by! This week I thought I would round-up some adorable Kate-Spade inspired bar accessories! I love how the gold polka-dots have become one of Kate Spade’s signatures and I have used them as the influence for finding coordinating pieces!  These adorable gold accessories will totally glamorize a friend’s alcohol, keeping it oh-so classy. Best part? They are all super affordable and fit my #brokecollegegirl budget.

1. Confetti Shot Glasses-Nordstrom

These fun glasses will be perfect to celebrate New Year’s with and as such would make an awesome X-mas gift. I would want them in my collection, wouldn’t you?

2. Initial Wine Stopper- Bed, Bath and Beyond

I actually just picked one of these up as part of a friend’s gift! I thought it would be so useful for all those open bottles of wine (ooops). As a sorority girl, I have learned to love everything monogrammed so obviously I love the personal touch this stopper has.

3. Kate Spade Shaker- Red Dress Boutique

A Kate-Spade inspired bar cart would not be complete without something that is authentically Kate Spade! This cocktail shaker is everywhere and I can totally see why.

4. Stemless Glasses- Kohl’s

These Fitz and Floyd glasses immediately grabbed my eye. They are unique but timeless and will instantly spruce up anything you’re drinking. The gold dots just make me dream of champagne!

5. Gold Ice Bucket- World Market

Not really sure if people actually use ice buckets anymore but nevertheless this one is pretty enough just to look at. Plus for the $12 price tag I would buy one just for decoration.

Eco-Friendly Summer Essentials

Hello all my lovely readers! I am so sorry it has been so long in me posting but I have the MCAT coming up so I am studying hard! I thought I would do a list of summer essentials with a twist: they must  be eco-friendly! When I set off on this journey (because trust me it’s harder than you think) I never realized how many of my favorite things were NOT eco-friendly. It has inspired me to try to buy more products that are and I can’t wait to try them out! But below are the products that I currently have or desperately want for a successful summer!

1. Burlap beach bag from Thank Heaven Boutique. This bag is made from jute material which 100% biodegradable and is grown organically without pesticides! I have researched for a perfect eco-friendly bag and nothing seemed to fit my style until this one. How could I resist something so preppy and southern?

2. My Rainbow flip-flops. I could go on and on about how much I love these things. I wear them on the daily. No joke. Just check out my Instagram! They have arch support so you are comfortable in them all day long, unlike cheap flip-flops that are flat to the ground. The layers of the shoe are held together with special formulated environmentally friendly glue. Also the whole mission of the company is to prevent shoes from being discarded on beaches or landfills. It has a recycle program that asks you to please donate your worn out Rainbows so they can repair them and give them to people in need.

3. I realized I need a good water bottle being a summer camp counselor. Camelbaks are already known and loved and so they seemed like the obvious answer! In addition the Camelbak Better Bottles are made from BPA- free plastic! I have heard such great things about this bottle I can’t wait to pick one up!

4. BB Cream is a summer must-have! Its so easy to slap on before running to the pool or beach and gives you a little bit of color in the harsh sunlight. I just started using Physician’s Formula BB Cream with SPF 30 and I am in love. It hides all my blemishes and red spots while also smoothing and protecting my skin! It is found on EWG’s list of best moisturizers with SPF!

5. I am a bracelet fanatic as I have probably mentioned before. I have four Alex & Ani bracelets and I am ready to collect some more! I have this perfect summer accessory all ready and have paired it for a nautical themed outfit in this post. The awesome thing about these are they are made with sustainable materials like recycled copper and are made solely in the USA. No worries about sweatshops or unfair labor practices!

6. Finally what’s summer without a bathing suit? I love the retro meets modern feeling of this suit. Right up my alley. Plus the fun, bright print would look great on the beach or poolside! It is made by Naja, a company dedicated to eco-friendly products like braspanties, and the Taylor Monokini swimsuit shown above.. This suit is made of 84% recycled PET, which is the material of which many plastic bottles are made. I never even thought that recycled plastic could be made into a suit!

I found out that none of the sunscreens I use are eco-friendly! I didn’t want to put one that was on my list because I have not used one and can not speak on the effectivity or other features. So if anyone has a favorite eco-friendly sunscreen and you want to share, I would love to try it out! Also anyone have a favorite eco-friendly summer essential?

Bargain Bangs

So broke college girl here. And the even sadder thing is I’m a broke college girl who is addicted to shopping. I’m sure many of you share my disease. If you have shopaholics anonymous number holla at me. Been looking for that. Anyways I have been strategically scooped the internet, outlets, and other places of shopping that have the best deals for the cutest (no promises on quality). Here they are!

1.  simpleaddiction.com Sometimes it takes a little digging to find something I really want but I have now bought two dresses from there for $10! Best part is they always have promotions and shipping is only $2! I can’t wait to wear the below dress on game days! My pathetic minimum wage income can handle that! (Please excuse how wrinkled it is.)

2. tobi.com If you haven’t checked this site out yet then you have been living under a very sad rock. Go now! Seriously such fashion forward clothes for a small price, especially in their sale. The below shirt was only $9! And I bought one for my birthday for $12! Don’t worry how far you live because all shipping is FREE! Cannot argue with that. Also its 50% off your first order. This site is love. It always treats my buying jitters (similar to coffee jitters but not)

3. Gabriel Brothers or as I lovingly call it, Gabe’s. Okay so this place is a little disorganized and some of their stuff is uhhh questionable but I can always find at least one good piece of clothing there. Yes it does take patience and a little bit of luck but this place has awesome deals! Below I bought a fur vest from there for $5! YES FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS. And the jean jacket? $10! If you have not had the pleasure of being acquainted with this classy establishment, it is a TJ Maxx-esque department store with designer (and sometimes not designer) over stock.

If you have any great places that have great deals let me know! I am always looking for the next place to spend my grocery money at (priorities, am I right?)
