How I Live in my Tiny Space

I have been living in my tiny excuse for a room for almost two years now. Can you even believe that I don’t want to pull my hair out or punch my fist through the wall? Maybe it’s from my cramped memories of the dorm and sorority house that I feel that the joy I find in solace of my own room outweighs the crackerbox claustrophobia. Or maybe its because I have found and utilized the best space saving strategies ever! Seriously I think Pinterest is the greatest thing  that’s ever happened to the Internet. I found much of my inspiration there and just modified it to fit my style!

So the white jewelry dish is actually two glass dishes from Goodwill that I spray painted white. The middle is just a glass candle stick, also from Goodwill. I love putting my every day jewelry right where I can grab it! The mason jar I painted with regular acrylic paint and then used sand paper to scuff it up and give it a rustic feel. It holds little paper clips for my photo from pictured below.

The picture frame is not necessarily a space saver but I do like displaying my favorite moments and it’s a lot smaller than a bunch of picture frames. I spray painted an old frame white and then strung some twine with a staple gun. Easy enough? The awesome intagram prints are from Foxprint. They are 25 cents a piece and ship right to your door!

This is one of my favorite parts of my room. I love that all my hair, skin and other daily products are still easily accessible but are neatly suspended over my dresser, leaving it clutter free! This nifty contraption is actually a spice rack from Ikea and cost me only $3.99!

I am obsessed with the Dollar Tree. Literally OBSESSED. Ask my friends. They’ll tell you. So when I came across these adorable apothecary jars I just had to have them. I painted the top of them with acrylic paint, scuffed them up a bit, mod-podged them and viola! You would be surprised by what you can find at the dollar store.

Another fav of mine. This rack is mounted on the inside side of my closet door. I just open it up and all of my statement necklaces (and a couple of my favorite purses) are right there! Its getting pretty full now so I think I might have to pick up a second one! I found this also at Ikea meant for something in the kitchen. Obviously I had a better idea. (s hooks found here)

Anybody have space saving tips? I would love to here them! xoxo

A Kentucky girl can never have too much blue! Seriously the number of blue dresses I have is kinda alarming. That being said I am always looking out for another one to add to my collection, and who isn’t with all the tailgating there is to do? Luckily I was able to team up with Gameday Belles Boutique and try out the beautiful Ansley dress. I love the flowiness of this dress and the pretty white accent bow. Plus its always a bonus when the dress pairs perfectly with my cowboy boots! This outfit makes me wish it was football season and I was out tailgating before the game. Super comfortable + super cute = a win for me (on and off the field!)

Gameday Belles has a variety of AH-DOR-ABLE dresses, all in the favorite colors of the South! As well, they have accessories that will maximize your tailgating spirit such as state necklaces and bracelets! Another bonus? Use code ukcitybelles at checkout and receive 10% off your order!

16 Goals for 2016

Screen Shot 2016-01-11 at 10.00.45 PMSo I know I am a little late in making the “New Year” post but I have sat down many times since that first of the month to write this post and it just didn’t seem right until now. 2016 for me will be a year of upheaval in my life. But the craziness that implies is not unwelcome. I will be graduating undergrad and starting my journey into Medical school. I will be leaving the comfort of my roommates (of three years) to be dropped in the world of independent living. I will be moving away from those I love and those I love will be moving away from me. It’s scary and exciting and nerve-wracking all at once, but I am ready for the journey. So I have thought of 16 things I would like to do in this year of 2016. Some goals are small and personal while others are ambitious and inclusive, but all are sure to make 2016 the best year yet.

  1. Travel out of the country
  2. Take a spontaneous road trip
  3. Set up a personal domain for my blog
  4. Develop a more regular workout routine
  5. Cook at least one new dinner a week (doesn’t sound like much but hey, I’m still a busy college student)
  6. Save a portion of every paycheck
  7. Reach 1,000 followers on Instagram
  8. Explore somewhere new here in Kentucky
  9. Get into Med School and rock my first semester
  10. Make my first investment
  11. Become more independent (love my parents but I need to stand on my own!)
  12. Go to a dinner show with friends
  13. Attend church more often
  14. Take my parents out to dinner (on my bill)
  15.   Go golfing (and maybe learn how to first)
  16. Go to the NCAA national championships and see the Cats win it all!

What are your goals/dreams for 2016? I would love to hear them!

How Collegers Are Preparing for the Holidays

Screen Shot 2015-12-23 at 9.33.41 PM

If you were confused by my title, collegers is a word a made up to define those young folk who attend college (like me!). I feel that it encompasses the demographic I am referring to quite nicely. That being said we are a unique and distinct group that goes about life differently than the rest of the population. While everyone else is scurrying around doing this or that for the upcoming holidays, collegers are preparing for the season in a completely seperate manner…

  1. We have rediscovered the couch at home that actually fits our whole body length… and we haven’t moved…probably for days.
  2. We are binge watching as much Netflix as humanly possible before break ends and we must enter back into reality where we actually have to do things
  3. We are raiding our pantries at home, overwhelmed by the amount of snacks that are different from pretzels and chewy bars (maybe that’s just me?)
  4. We are reconnecting with friends from high school by sitting in Starbucks and gossiping about our former classmates for hours
  5. We then realize that we don’t really care about those people and we FaceTime our friends from college and gossip about our current classmates
  6. We are with mom and while she is attempting to finish up her Christmas shopping, we are trying to convince her to buy us something because we are #poor
  7. We are talking to our dogs (and  cats?) because we don’t know how to function without our roommates and our parents/siblings are at work
  8. We then talk to ourselves because talking to the dog is crazy and I mean we are totally sane… right?
  9. We are refusing to get out of sweatpants, leggings and t-shirts because we don’t know how to wear anything else
  10. We are mentally preparing ourselves to answer the inevitable question of “So what are you doing with your life?” and failing

Of course we are also looking forward to seeing our family and spending Christmas with our loved ones that we have missed so much. How are you preparing for the holidays? Let me know in the comments below!

Comfy Cozy Gifts

Screen Shot 2015-12-06 at 10.06.39 PM

This week’s gift guide is all about becoming the ultimate couch potato. I am always seeking to perfect this role so these gifts especially appealed to me. Christmas break is quickly approaching and I need every fluffy, fuzzy and just plain warm thing there is out there to make it as relaxing as possible. I think many of you might be on the same page. So whether you need a present for snuggle-loving friend or just one to add to your christmas list, you have to check these out! As always all gifts are under $50!

1. Sweatered Mug-Target

I just think this is downright adorable. A sweater for your mug? Like who thought of that? Genius! It’s too cute not to buy. Am I right?

2. Fleece Blanket- Target

Yeah, I am repeating Target. But who isn’t obsessed with Target? Plus what would a cozy gift guide be without a warm blanket. I just love how this one is Christmas themed!

3. Socks-J.Crew

J. Crew always has the funnest socks! I feel like thick patterned socks are trending. Or maybe its just getting cold and they are practical. Either way these are adorable.

4. PJ Pants- Old Navy

I am going to snag those gray waffle leggings for myself! Both pairs are under $10. Can’t beat that!

5. Rudolf Pillow- Nordstrom

I have no idea if this pillow is comfortable but honestly I don’t care. I laughed as soon as I saw it (maybe I laugh too easily). I think is subtle enough to match any decor but still brings plenty of Christmas spirit.

6. Slippers-Kohl’s

So if socks aren’t a warm enough option for cold feet, these slippers are definitely the next step. They look like they are a coat for your foot.

If you love everything on this list (like I do) then they all pair together. Imagine sitting in front of the fire with your PJ pants, socks and slippers on, holding a nice mug of hot cocoa, lounging on your Rudolf pillow and wrapped in your fleece blanket. Paints a pretty picture don’t you think?

5 Things I’m Thankful for in College

thankful link up 1

As a collegiate woman there are quite a few things I am thankful for that may not resonate with the rest of the populous. Nevertheless these things are essential to my (and my college peers) existence. Without such we would be sad, desperate young adults. It would be a scary world, trust me.

Netflix

Thank you Netflix for always being there for me. How many times have I skipped class just to watch that one more episode (jokes, like 5 more)? I wish you were an excused absence and an acceptable justification for being late to work. Oh, in an ideal world…Thank you for letting multiple devices be signed in at once so that I can use my parents’ account (or friends’, or friends’ parents’) and don’t have to pay for you myself. I’m not ready to be that adult yet.

Quizlet

Thank you Quizlet for always getting me through last minute studying. Without you I would not be able to procrastinate and still obtain reasonable grades on my exams. You are a college student’s savior and I hope whoever created you is sitting on piles of cash.

iMessage

Thank you iMessage for syncing to my computer. In classes where I am not allowed to have my phone out and I am bored to tears, I can still be connected to the world because of you. I don’t know if professors just haven’t realized what’s happening or just have no way of preventing it but nevertheless I’m thankful.

Parking Meters

Thank you meters for allowing me to drive to school everyday without a parking pass. Although parking at you is a gamble, and I have received many parking tickets from doing so, you let me live up to my full potential of being as lazy as possible. Thank you also for giving me the ability to spot change and pounce on it like a hungry animal anywhere I go.

My Bed

Thank you bed for being so versatile. You are my desk, my table, my clothes hamper, my couch and my sleeping place. I never knew you would be such a great investment. You make everything I am thankful for come together. Many times I am watching Netflix, typing up a Quizlet (while messaging my roommate in the next room), laying on you and waiting to late to walk to class. They say the kitchen is the heart of the home but I really know you are.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Share what you’re thankful for below! 🙂

Stocking Stuffers: For Your Men

Screen Shot 2015-11-18 at 8.41.39 PM

Here’s the second installment of my weekly gift guide! I have been wracking my brain trying to think of the perfect gifts for my boyfriend, dad and brother. Annnnnddddd still haven’t found them yet. BUT in the meantime I have compiled the best list of stocking stuffers that I’m absolutely sure they love. I thought y’all would agree! Best of all they are all still under $50! Remember #brokecollegegirl

1. Socks-J.Crew

So A (my boyfriend) is obsessed with printed socks. In my mom’s words, “What? Is he a thirteen year old girl?” Nevertheless he gets more excited about opening a box of socks than anything else. So if you have a man in your life that is at least 1/10 as excited as my boyfriend about socks than you need to pick him up a pair of these beauties.

2. Bowtie-Shop Local KY

A and my brother both have an impressive bowtie collection and when I saw this one I just knew it would make the perfect addition. Of course this particular one only really applies to Kentucky lovers. There’s quite a few options out there but of course this one caught my eye. (CATS by 90)

3. Yeti Colster- Field and Stream

I actually have already given this to A and my dad. They have l-o-v-e-d it and I have been so impressed, I want to tell everyone to go get one immediately! I think I’ll be picking up the rambler next!

4. “Merica-Rowdy Gentleman

Patriotic. Fuzzy ball. ‘Nuff said?

5. Flask- Etsy

For your legal-aged men here’s fancy flask. You can customize however you want and even have your man’s favorite liquor logo lasered on the front. I ordered one with the Captain Morgan label a few years ago and A was obsessed. Best part? Only $11!
